There is a high level of interdependence between cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and combined, these two fields open up opportunities unimaginable in the past. Although it is not yet officially in the DEX, cloud computing has already entered the vocabulary of any Romanian who has a minimal connection with technology and digitization. In short, cloud computing is a form of delivering IT resources (servers, storage, applications, etc.) as a service over the Internet in a flexible and scalable way. Concretely, a Romanian company no longer has to buy a server and install it at its own premises, but will access an IT infrastructure service, for example from the M247 data center, paying only a monthly subscription. The cloud revolution is already underway, and the benefits are obvious.

But what if we add Artificial Intelligence to the equation, an area of technology that allows machines to perform operations autonomously, operations that would otherwise require the intervention of a human employee?

Obviously, we are witnessing a new revolution, called the “fourth industrial revolution” by the experts from the World Economic Forum and which, in the near future , will fundamentally change the way we do business.

The role of Machine Learning in cloud computing

Machine Learning (ML), a branch of Artificial Intelligence, is the backbone of the evolution of cloud computing. Machine Learning algorithms enable systems to learn from available data and continuously improve performance and efficiency. Currently, ML is used to automate processes in the cloud, from scaling resources based on requirements to automatically monitoring and remediating issues. Machine Learning-based systems can anticipate and prevent outages, ensuring maximum availability of cloud services. It helps optimize the use of cloud resources by analyzing usage data and recommending changes in resource allocation to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Machine Learning technology is also used to identify irregular patterns or security threats in cloud data streams. By using machine learning algorithms, cyber security solutions detect traffic anomalies associated with an attack in real time and react quickly to counter them. The anti-DDoS solutions offered by for the protection of websites and web portals integrate such functionalities to guarantee the integrity of data and customer reputation.

The impact of AI on cloud services

Artificial Intelligence is used within IT infrastructure services (IT as a Service) to automate and simplify the way workloads run. As AI systems become increasingly capable of performing these tasks, cloud services become more independent, fairer and better managed, improving overall efficiency for all parties involved. With the help of AI, the scaling of resources in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) can be fully automated. Systems can learn traffic requirements and adjust resources accordingly, saving costs and ensuring consistent performance. AI algorithms can help optimize cloud infrastructure and reduce costs by automating many processes such as resource allocation, load balancing, and scaling.

Cloud storage services are also enhanced with the help of Artificial Intelligence. AI can manage and organize data more efficiently, whether it’s deduplicating data (automatically identifying redundant records) or compressing it to save storage space. This leads to lower storage costs and more efficient use of resources. AI also plays an important role in data recovery/restoration, with the ability to more quickly identify needed data and prioritize it for restoration. This ensures the achievement of a higher RTO (Recovery Time Objective) indicator within the Disaster Recovery plans, which integrates cloud storage services.

Better Data Center Services with AI

More and more data centers are exploiting Artificial Intelligence internally as well, from energy management to support services. AI can optimize energy use in the data center by identifying sources that artificially increase consumption, such as underutilized servers. Also, AI has an essential role in predictive maintenance of equipment (servers, cloud storage systems, networking, cooling systems). By monitoring performance in real time, potential operational problems can be discovered before they occur. Thus, technical teams can better plan their interventions and interruptions are reduced. Through chatbots, Data Centers also benefit from a modern and efficient way of interacting with customers.

Support activities can be automated by using a chatbot to take customer requests/reports and route them to the responsible staff. Thus, the support department’s schedule can be extended 24/7 without additional pressure on human resources.

The convergence between cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence will undoubtedly continue. AI will fuel the agility of services offered in Data Centers, as the benefits of automation cannot be ignored. At the same time, AI enhances the capabilities and advantages of cloud computing, making it more efficient in handling complex tasks. Artificial Intelligence helps automate complex tasks, optimize the performance of services (from IaaS to cloud storage), strengthen security and improve user experience.

At M247 we believe in the power of Artificial Intelligence and put it at the service of our customers to provide them with better and more accessible services. For any discussion about how we apply AI technology in our data center, contact us at office@m247.ro.
