As a rapidly growing business, the health and safety of our employees and the security of our clients’ data is a major focus. Having thoroughly revised our health and safety measures over the last two years, we’re incredibly proud to be shortlisted for the Safety and Health Excellence Awards 2019.

We owe a big congratulations to our environmental health and safety manager, Paul Bolton, who has been shortlisted for the HSM Rising Star Award, making the final 10 of 200 nominees. Being recognized in this space is a huge achievement for both the business and Paul individually.

Paul is one of our longest-serving employees, having been with the business for over 12 years, formerly working for Metronet UK. Previously working in an engineer management role, he was appointed to head up health and safety in September 2017. Paul conducted his own research to consolidate his knowledge of the role before appointing health and safety advisory company, Citation, in December 2017.

Since embarking on the role, Paul has made huge progress. The initial health and safety audit required 87 improvements to be made across M247’s Manchester sites, while the same audit a year later returned just nine. Similarly, of the 30 actions required from the first audit of the London HQ, a year later the audit only reported one required action. One of his main challenges has been ensuring all health & safety objectives at M247’s Trafford Park datacentres are met. It naturally poses many fire risks, but Paul has successfully implemented a robust strategy to protect the data center, its assets, and most importantly, our people.

Paul has now enrolled with the NCRQ to achieve a Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety to take M247 from a compliant business to one with a comprehensive safety culture.

Paul commented, “I am proud to be recognized for such a prestigious award, my personal development has exceeded my own expectations over the past 12 months. I’m looking forward to further development and achieving health and safety excellence for M247.”

M247 CEO, Jenny Davies, added, “Paul is a great example of the self-starting ambitious individuals the company prides itself on. We’re incredibly proud of Paul’s progress and recognition in these national awards – that alone is a huge achievement.”

The awards are taking place on 10th April at VOX, Resorts World Birmingham and we wish Paul the best of luck!
